We’re official!
As of August 19th, 2023, Safe Self Society officially became:
Safe Self Society INC.
What does this mean?
Safe Self Society is now a registered nonprofit organization in the state of Missouri! Special shout out to our director, board members, and secretary for working together to make this happen!
What’s next?
Now that we are recognized in the state of Missouri as an incorporated nonprofit, we can apply for our tax exemption status through the IRS. This application is lengthy and tedious. Luckily, we can start taking donations even while this exemption status is pending approval.
How can I donate with IRS Tax Exemption status still pending?
When you donate money to any cause, whether it be a local bake sale or American Red Cross, those groups should be letting you know if your donations are tax deductible. When donations are deductible, you can claim them on your personal taxes for a tax break. When donations are not deductible, you are merely helping a good cause without expecting any specific personal tax breaks.
Safe Self Society is currently in-between these two statuses. Any money you donate before our tax exemption status is approved cannot currently be used as a tax write-off. However, if our tax exemption status is approved, you would be able to retroactively claim any donations made. Once our application has been approved, all donations will be tax deductible.
We’re excited to see Safe Self one step closer to being a reality!
Thank you for making a difference by donating!
